This Stone's on FIRE!

Opal has its fans. Fire opal has its on-fire fanatics. What we love about precious opal is its limitless play of color turning each stone into an impressionist work of art.

HOT STONES
Then there's fire opal. Now that's a different story. This exciting opal variety is produced in a range of vibrant dense yellow to flaming oranges. Unlike the other well know opal variety, this one is more transparent to translucent in appearance. And instead of being opaque, it thrills with its unexpected neon crystalline hues. Exceptional specimens can almost appear to be back-lit with a lively light source shining through.

Yael Designs loves this alluring stone. The beautiful ring shown here is named Etna---you can see why. Here's a shot of the historic Sicilian volcano, Mt. Etna's recent eruption.

See what we mean? The interesting note with Yael's creation is not only his love for unusual stones, but his ability to create a worthy piece of jewelry around it without upstaging the voice of the stone itself. Not every designer can or wants to pull that off.

FIND IT AROUND THE GLOBE
Many think the best source for lively fire opal is Mexico where the most attractive colors, bright orange to red-orange are found in great quantity. Other areas around the world do produce this too, like Australia, Brazil and Ethiopia, Central America, and even Nevada.
