DRESSING WITH COLOR
Colors don't have to 'pop' as fashionistas are always wont to say. Sometimes the strength of a statement is in--more is more. Carrie Underwood sang at the recent CMA awards in a vivid blue gown and accessorized by Sutra asymmetrically designed pendant earrings. Both are intense blue and drive home the power of sapphire's bold hue.

CLOSE BUT DIFFERENT
Sapphire and ruby are kissing cousins--both are exactly the same gem mineral species, being corundum. What makes their coloration different is the inclusion of chromium in the case of ruby to turn the stone a bright crimson. With sapphire, it's iron, titanium and chromium which are responsible for the lush cobalt tint.

MATCHY-MATCH IS A GOOD THING
When considering what accessories to pair with an outfit, don't forget the monochrome statement which can be a bold and memorable choice.
