Pearl Of Great Price

Shows you how much collectors love their natural pearls. Here's one literally for the record. Christies Dubai found their 60 carat natural baroque pearl exceeded their hefty pre-sale estimate, selling for $254,500US in a Dubai auction today, April 20, 2011.

It was the largest such pearl that Christies ever offered, and so it had a wide  pre-auction estimate of $180K to $250K.

Excitement swirls around these anomalies, since who knows how much a rarity will finally sell for? Truth is, the sky is really the limit, since a bidder may never encounter its equal in their lifetime.

Remarked David Warren, Director and Head of Christies Jewellery Dubai, "In a lively saleroom dominated by private collectors from the region diamonds and decorative jewels were the most popular areas of the sale. The natural pearl, the biggest we have ever offered in Dubai, sold for $254,500 and Anna Hu, the internationally known young contemporary jeweler was in great demand."
